OUR DOCTOR
Dr. Thu Nguyen was born in Vietnam and grew up in the Bay Area. She graduated from the University of California Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiological Sciences. In 2011, she obtained the Doctorate of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry. Dr. Nguyen completed her post-doctorate residency in primary eye care, low vision rehabilitation, and binocular vision in traumatic brain injuries at the San Diego VA Medical Center in La Jolla in 2012. Dr. Nguyen has a therapeutic optometric license. She is certified to treat glaucoma and various eye conditions such ocular inflammation and infections and the detection and management of cataract, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Optometry. Over the past 7 years, Dr. Nguyen had gathered a wealth of experiences caring for patients alongside ophthalmologists in various specialities from glaucoma and cataract to corneal and refractive specialists in Monterey, San Francisco, and San Diego. She is very excited to bring her seasoned experiences in primary eye care, ocular disease management, and specialty contact lens to serve the San Diego community. Dr. Nguyen looks forward to connecting with you and providing you and your family's eye care needs for 20/20 and beyond. ​Besides eye care, other passions Dr. Nguyen enjoys include being out in nature hiking and camping, a little bit of amateur photography, and cooking. She loves to travel and to learn about different cultures and trying different cuisines. Some of her favorite trips were traveling to places where she helped provide eye care services so those who do not have access. She had gone to Taveuni, Fiji, to Loretto and La Purisima in Baja California, and most recently to Chiapas, Mexico to provide eye exams to those in need. Dr. Nguyen looks forward to her next optometric volunteer adventure.
Hi, my name is Dinh Chau. I am Dr.Nguyen’s assistant at Eye Connection Optometry. You’ll usually see me at the front office or hear me over the phone. I have a background in Anthropology and Data Analytics. I am an avid reader, model kit builder, gamer, airsofter, foodie, and listener of a variety of music genres. I also occasionally will write short stories on the side. Now, the reason why I am working here at Eye Connection is that I like to help people. Prior, I assisted as a coding tutor and I enjoyed helping others reach their “Aha!” moments. Being an assistant gives me the opportunity to do so but more so on the eye care end. From helping answer simple questions about prescriptions, to fitting eyeglasses, to scheduling appointments and so on. It all gives me a very simple sense of fulfillment and joy.
